Mender’s Farewell

As of last year, there were only 800 fabric menders.
—America’s Most (and Least) Common Jobs – 24/7 Wall St.

Mending’s a skill we’re too fast forgetting to do.
Why bother? Simply replace old threads with new.

Don’t mind how nothing’s made to last no more.
Give up on fixing, and we’ll get what we paid for.

Me, I’m aiming my sewing machine straight to hell
where given up on and forgotten suits a body well.
