Of Certain Naval Engagements

Too many navies keep flying our navy’s flag
hoping to gain them the upper hand.
We wouldn’t mind that if it weren’t how they brag
it being theirs the republic for which we must stand.

We’re not about to let one who excuses abuse
to come preaching on us how we’re doing wrong
not accepting this, that or the other excuse
for stepping over where we’d lain all along.

Too many navies keep shooting our navy’s guns
emptying our ammo supplies on our own coasts.
We wouldn’t mind that if it weren’t for the ones
they aim to blame for dying are already ghosts.

We’re not about to let one who excuses abuse
to come knocking us down for company we keep
not inviting them. Anyhow, hell, what’d be the use
when they’d rob us blind soon as we fell asleep?

Too many navies keep docking up in our navy’s docks
bedding our women, getting drunk on our beer.
We wouldn’t mind that if it weren’t for those rocks
they keep running into mistaking as our home pier.

We’re not about to let one who excuses abuse
to come near enough to bust up our one good hip.
Too many navies keep setting our navy’s sails loose
to sail where we’ve no business sinking a ship.
